IIT Bombay, the name takes it all. It is one of the best IIT’s in India. The place everyone dreams of but only a few get into it. One of those intelligent minds who made up till there is Deepak Kinra. You can just imagine how great he would have performed in JEE and JEE advance to reach there . Let’s hear it up from him what is it to be at the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay.

I will always remember my eighteenth birthday, not for the very obvious reason of turning into an adult, but as The Birthday on which I gave myself a gift. The gift was of a meagre three digits, 466! No, it wasn’t 466 candies. It was the result day of JEE Advanced 2014. And yes, those three digits was my rank.

Going back to square one, when I started preparing for JEE, dreaming about getting into one of the IIT’s, I had always wished to see my name in the merit list. After getting selected, not defying the basic laws of human nature, I now had a new wish-to get into IIT Bombay.

Eager about college life, I surfed the net through the day about life at IIT Bombay, about the campus and stuff. I had never expected that the amazing things I read on web about IITB, would indeed be true, rather true beyond I had ever anticipated.

Having been at IITB for about six months, I have now realized as to why IIT’s are so sought after. It’s not just engineering that one does being at IIT Bombay, it’s much more. There’s a huge wealth of experience to tap into, not only in academics, but in almost everything one loves to do. There are a plethora of opportunities to pursue and to hone one’s skills. One gets to know and inspire from the best minds of the country. I myself have learnt a lot in the time I spent here.

Talking about the technical side of my experience, I have made a RC plane and a line follower robot of my own. Now I’m working on a quad copter. And here, they teach everything from scratch.

I have had amazing political experiences too. The Hostel Election was a completely new experience. We campaigned, distributed manifestos and prepared posters prior to the elections. I got elected as the Photography and Film Secretary and have learnt a lot since then.

Towards the end of the autumn semester, comes the most awaited event, Mood Indigo, which is proclaimed to be Asia’s Largest College Cultural Festival. Endless enjoyment and learning, to sum those four days up! Then comes Techfest, which is Asia’s Largest Science and Technology Festival. There are exhibitions of robots from around the world, Robowars, Informal events, Lectures from prominent personalities from the globe and a lot more.

Talking about the campus, IITB has a sprawling campus. It took me around two weeks to completely get rid of campus maps. In contrast to the Mumbai hustle and bustle, the campus environment is pleasant, clean and green. To add to the beauty, there’s Sameer Hill in the campus (from where the IITian leopards arise) and Powai and Vihar lakes too.

There’s so much to experience, so much to explore here that however long one stays at IITB it isn’t enough. This write-up pretty much sums up my experience in the past six months. There’s a lot more than this here at IITB.

An advice to JEE aspirants: Work hard, give your best shot because everything you sacrifice is going to be more than WORTH it. To fade out the worries of new entrants, there are strict anti-ragging laws. And to make freshmen more comfortable, they get to stay in newest hostels with best facilities. So, go study!

They’re definitely going to miss this train! Still at the hostel, c’mon guys, hurry up! Finally, all aboard? Yo! Trip to Ratlam! What? We aren’t destined to Ratlam, we’ve a long way to Mood Indigo 2014! Anyways trains are cool, Sheldon likes them too.. Of course, it’s not that we just sang 90’s tracks, we played UNO but with playing cards. That’s really fascinating! Okay, okay.. without any waffle, Really? You think so? And flashing t’was, our train was late by 4 hours. Fine we can adjust with that. How about PK?? Amazing it was, premier in an unknown town, must try that! And out when we were, our train was late by 8 hrs. It then started getting delayed by leaps and bounds , 10 hrs, 12.. and finally we weren’t sure, if it was going to arrive ever! The journey was getting a twist, worries and tensions surrounded us, but finally we decided to hop into another train. We definitely served a lot to TCs in exchange of a hell controversial berths! Every half an hour we were awakened, a Parsi and a Punjabi aunty quarreled, students beside our berths were embezzled. Ultimately IIT Bombay! Adventure starts here, never-ending queue and no idea about accommodation! 21 girls and 1 room, are you kidding me? We’ll adjust in the lobby. Frankies and frankies, the most palatable thing we had, and time for shopping! Me, Shivangi, Pratibha and Rini left for Kanjurmarg(I know, I wrote 100 times to memorize it :P) to fetch a local to CST. The first local was enough to terrify us. But we struggled hard to get into the next. 4 of us started out, only 3 reached, yeah, Rini missed it! So when 3 of us were merry making (shopping :P), my dearest friends were fighting for green cards. Of course we are winners! While on the way back, Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminal mesmerized us! It was the most beautiful edifice I had ever seen in my life! It was spellbounding <3 Nap time! Night night in the corridors. Wait do you even have a mattress? Go get it!

Official day 1 of MoodI, but how bout Mumbai Darshan? Marine Drive it is! Ohh, again locals, but I’m experienced enough! Wiping off my forehead, “I survived!” All of it just vanished as we saw the mighty sun gazing at the magnificent sea. Babbling we strolled to Gateway Of India! Meanwhile, we came across some masterpieces of British architecture and The Jehangir Art Gallery. Though we aren’t some of those aesthetic personalities, but we were enchanted by the sculptures and artifacts from Chola and Gupta Dynasties. Snapping a 100 shots at Gateway Of India, we were heading back and bam! we were at Kolaba! Have no idea how we reached there, but it was a bonanza for us ladies and a menace for poor guys. However, the hit of the day was all credited to our journey back via local train where we found a pair of pants lying on the floor with a cellphone continuously vibrating, enough to make our bloods run cold! Thanks Almighty Lord! Anyways, the clock was about to tick 12, maahaul to ab shuru hua tha yaar! Guitarists and singers everywhere scintillated the lamps, fired up the camps! The night donned the charismatic ambience with the jingles of friendship, love and joy! Amazing ‘bakar’ added up the spice to our melodies; one could just not afford some sleep at the cost of this escapade. However, to revitalize for the next day ventures, we went to bed around 4.

Here comes the day 2, but Mumbai is a big city, and one just cannot miss out the beaches! Took a bus and headed to Bandstand, Bandra. The best thing about the bus ride was a sound nap we had for an hour or two; but the side effects were missing out the destination We started strolling again and hurray! Girls it’s linking road, shopping arena again! Anyhow, we reached the stinking beauty! Place was awesome but malodorous. Saw the very famous residences of Salman Khan (Yes, it was his birthday!) and clicked pictures with ‘Mannat – The NamePlate’. Finally with the sundown we were at Juhu. Pleasant tides and the darkness distracted us from the grubbiness of the place(Don’t want to mock about it, but Humph! it’s true). However, the ebb and flow washed away all anxieties and triggered gratification. Back we were to our campus, and with the nightfall, the magic began. Classic advertisements of Nerolac and Nirma went more snazzy on the chords of Guitars. Slumbered around 4 again, oh wait! Did I miss something, of course the freakish moment of the day – a bizarre cow chased Neha!

With the dawn, it was day 3, too much of Mumbai now, so we suited up, not to miss any more events of the fest! Got selfies at Myntra, propped funny with big glasses and crimson colored hair, had 5 cans of Urzzza(tastes horrible :P).

“When the sun comes up in the morning, hello bitches (*beaches), waves are falling over you!”

Yes, The Amsterdams! They rocked the Chhammak Chhallo! Moving further, t’was the time for Quantum Enigma! The evening started out with the finale of LiveWire and the most awaited moment arrived – Failte Epica!! The symphonic metal band expertly blended the diabolical guitar with angelic choruses, evocative synthesizers and mind-boggling drum-work! Me and Shivangi couldn’t just stop banging heads and danced like bacchanalians! Post event we met 2 guys from Oxigen Wallet App, offering us 50 Rs. recharge on installing the app(Yes, we were poor back then :P). One of’em was from Chennai and another was Mumbai-an and we had a hell of a conversation – what a sense a humour man! Anyways, the clock ticked campfire o’clock and you know what it means Hilarious jibber-jabbers, dumb charades and rapid rounds continued till 5. But on the spur of the moment, we started getting fidgety as tomorrow was the day of Vishal -Shekhar Concert and the queue was about to begin at 7 in the morn. And so we left for a nap!

The final day of Mood Indigo 2014 started with a hustle and the struggle to respire amongst the swarm of students queued infinitely to collect passes for the evening concert! It felt like winning a World Cup when we got the tickets after grappling for 4 hours. But you know, Vishal Shekhar is just worth it! Thereafter we got busy enjoying various activities going on in the campus and ultimately t’was the time! Nothing can ever beat the Bollywood hits and with the coolest voices, we just Rock and Rolled! Also, as another cool gang joined us, it turned into ‘the more, the merrier’. Just can’t express the degree of insaneness with which we danced, had never felt so lively before! The two songsters left us electrified and we carolled thereafter! Whoa, how can I forget to mention the cranky moment of the day! Okayz, so me and Neha were wandering and a guy shows up and asks us the tips to kiss a girl on the very first glance, and then in other half of his dare he asked one us to kiss him, poor guy Anyways, since it was our last night out, we made it our best!

The end of our journey had come, a few were packing, a few had packed and no one wanted to leave, we sighed and left with our last clicks. But again, no day goes without a bizarre moment and this day again we profited Railways a lot! 5 of us had got 10 tickets from different stations to different destinations, however, we decided to take a stop at Ratlam(yes, we love the city now!). With ‘khopde ki chatni’ and Aman’s favourite kulfiwala, we reached Ratlam the next morning!

The last day of the year, and we were heading home. We weren’t alone since each of us had a hell lot of memories, so many that I’ve got out of words! It was the crème de la crème moment of my entire life.

P.S. : Day 3 did have a weirdo moment which is not so weird as I fell in love with the anchor of the event Epica. And what is weird, is that I still have no idea who that was and I am still in love with him

University of Iowa is a great university at the United States, and well a lot of Indians dream about being there but only a few get into it. One of those intelligent minds who made up till there is Jay. Let’s hear it up from him what is it to be at the University of Iowa.

A few days back, I was asked to share a write up on my experiences at the University of Iowa. Now, when I first sat down to do this piece I was paralyzed. There was simply so much that could be written. Being the software engineer I am, it is very hard to write anything when the specifications aren’t precise. But then I consoled myself by saying- “Well this guy wants MY perspective, not a review, not facts and figures, not data infographics, not a formal report”. So, here I am.

The University of Iowa is a mid-sized university situated in the Midwest region of the United States. To those, unfamiliar with American geography, the school is located 3.5 hours west of Chicago in Iowa City, Iowa. Much to my annoyance, many people often confuse it with Iowa State University, which is a separate, different university located in Ames, 2 hours north of Iowa City.

The city itself is a small University town with a population of little more than 60,000. It is located off Interstate-80, a major U.S highway that runs from San Francisco to New Jersey. The Iowa river divides the city into two halves. The west part houses the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, which is a 700 bed super specialty hospital and the largest in the state. All the academic research departments related to healthcare research such as Audiology, Pharmacy and Public health are located around the hospital area. On this side of the river, is also, the iconic Kinnick Stadium, which is an American Football facility with a capacity of more than 70,000 people. Five major residence halls (or hostels, in Indian slang) too lie on the west side of Iowa City. On crossing the river, one reaches the heart of the City that is marked a prominent landmark called the “Old Capitol”, a large iconic building that was once the seat of Iowa legislature before the capital was moved to Des Moines in 1857. Around the capital, is the downtown area, marked (unsurprisingly) with pubs, restaurants and local businesses. The university buildings are all located near the Old capitol area, stretching out in all four directions.

I joined the U of I, in August 2013 to pursue a Masters degree in Computer Science. The major reason why I came here, is the sound financial support provided to graduate students (at least in my department) and favorable reviews by many of my college seniors here in India who were studying in the same program.

First up, I would like to set up a perspective here. If you are looking for a “cool university” with sexy places to visit and post status on Facebook, then this is not the place to be. It is located in the U.S Midwest and is surrounded by states that you would never have heard of before. There aren’t any prominent tourist attractions near by. The biggest city is Chicago, which is a 4-hour drive. This is a place, which is not hot in the rankings table, programs often featuring below 50.

But if you are someone who likes the intimacy of a small town, with its comfortable pace, security and a strong sense of community, then keep reading. While it isn’t the cheapest school if you do not have financial support, the low cost of living makes life easier. The public transport is decent and caters almost every area of the city. It has some good restaurants for vegetarians (surprise) and non-vegetarians alike. Voted the #1 Party school in the U.S a few years back, it is the ultimate place for bar hopping and lascivious dancing. For the more artsy types, the Iowa Writers’ Workshop is the one of the most prestigious writing programs in the country and has a very good art and literature scene. Iowa City has been marked by UNESCO as “The City of Literature”, joining a group of 11 such cities, worldwide. There is also a small lake beach called Lake Macbride, half an hour north, which is very popular with the locals in the summers.

The job prospect, something that many students are concerned about, is bright. This comes off as surprising to many given the location of the place and the lack of ‘popularity’ amongst Indian students who apply abroad. However, there are two major education based companies based out of Iowa City- ACT and Pearson, both of whom hire International students. I personally know people who applied online and offline to score high-paying jobs all over the United States. (Disclaimer- I speak only for Computer Science though I have known people in Health Sciences to have a favorable job outlook here as well.)

Being a University town, you enjoy a lot of perks like student clubs, minor events round the year and of course, sports. Iowa has a decent football team (the American one) and a good basketball team, which are a part of the BIG 10 conference. Due to the lack of any professional sports team nearby, i.e. NFL/NBA, the Iowans root for the Hawkeyes (as the University is called) in both of the major sports. Football game days are lively as both students and alumni support their team with fervor. The same is true for the party scene on game nights, which is more eagerly awaited than the game itself for many.

As for the cons, the first one is weather. Coming from a tropical climate, the intense cold and snow from mid-November to mid-April is not just inconvenient but troublesome. After the initial excitement of the snow wears off, bracing for the cold is like a battle that you have to face everyday, when the temperatures fall as low as -25 degrees. Secondly, Iowa City isn’t the most happening places on the planet. Yes, the campus is young and vibrant and yes, the bars are hot, but what if you are not a big booze fan? There are only so many good books one can read in their free time before you feel the need getting out somewhere. Sadly, there is no ocean, museum or a place of scenic beauty that you can getaway to for a few hours.
Hope you enjoyed reading this as much as I did writing it.

So, an article on my first experiences at The University Of Delhi? Well, I was elated when I was asked to write one. It made me ponder over the experiences of the most eventful year that a student goes through in his academic life. Sleepless nights before boards, pressure of performance, tension of result, the thinking phase followed by choices detrimental to the career that one wants to pursue. That isn’t all. Then comes the college life. A new life around new minds. Many students make it a point that they’ll move out for studies. In my case, the decision was made when I had only a vague idea about the prestige that the University has.

When the first cut-off list was out, I took admission in Kirorimal College. Oh boy, that was a mess. The admission procedure was sluggish, a task demanding a lot of patience. The scorching sun and humidity added to the woes. After two more cut-off lists, I decided to migrate to the college I really wanted. The Hindu College, one of the most trusted educational institutions of the country. Principal sir, addressing the college at the orientation programme, called it “the Mini India”, pointing to the cultural diversity among students that take admission here. Also that, the Hindu College has it’s own Parliament, an elected Prime Minister and Cabinet sessions.

The first few days in the college went in exploring the premises: the famous V Tree, the college canteen, the Nescafe spot, the hostel building, the hangout places nearby and all. As far as friends were concerned, I knew that one couldn’t actually choose friends. That is something entirely dependent on one’s nature and upbringing. It’s a privilege to have good friends here.
Ragging? As such, the word is enough to haunt any first year student. When I entered the premises of the college, the boards that hung on the walls clearly said ‘This is Hindu, We Don’t Rag’. When my friends tell me about how they were ragged in their respective colleges, I feel lucky that I wasn’t ragged at all. The senior guys are amiable and helpful. And it should be this way only. I respect my seniors. Intimidation or Bullying simply wouldn’t have done it. Yes, study is an important part of the college life but definitely not the whole of it. It’s more about learning something that the syllabus won’t have and the 12 years of schooling won’t aim at.

The initial period in this Metro culture was indeed a testing one. Life in a city like Delhi is fast paced and no one is actually bothered about anyone else, unless that person is to some monetary avail. Every student who moves out for studies misses his/her hometown in this period. One might experience cultural shocks as well. But that’s okay. Once you get used to it, sooner or later life becomes smooth. Friends in a city like Delhi are important. They are the ones who make life easy going. And I can assure, this city is going to be an experience, mostly good but bad at times as well, but experience.

People are not exploiting the web enough and better.

Those on web today, most of them if not all, need to understand that “Web is NOT just Facebook”

I have come across such ignorant bunch of engineering students, it makes me feel sad about their situation. Though I had been lucky enough to be associated with something, which provided me with a strong network and good exposure, but without curious attempts from my side, I would not have possibly done as much as I did (though it is minuscule, before where I see myself as).

You need no special talent (if you have it, that’s an advantage) to be successful,

Curiosity can do wonders for you too!

Why be Curious?

You find out so many things around you.

You are living in the age of internet, there is so much information to be consumed, how can you let it pass by without noticing it.

What you are being shown by the media is not all true, you need to explore very deep, very far to know the truth, or perhaps the other perspective.

When you know more, you can discuss more, and not sit like a mannequin when it comes to group discussions.

YOU WON’T MAKE A FOOL OUT OF YOURSELF, WHEN YOU OPEN YOUR MOUTH.

Start being curious, you’ll find more points to put in here

The unfortunate truth is that You Were Curious Once Upon A Time. That was the first and a very natural emotion you had as a baby. You were Curious about anything and everything, even things which could be dangerous, but that’s how you realized they were dangerous.

There is so much to learn, it would sound like an endorsement, but go make a Twitter account, follow some good handles there, consume information.

Join Medium, read great stuff. Don’t just watch songs, spoofs, trailers on YouTube, there are channels providing some very interesting videos.

Yes, games like Flappy Bird, Candy Crush are very addictive, but try QuizUp once.

Soon, you’ll get the feeling of having more information to be consumed but lesser time. That, IMHO is a positive sign. But be careful, to be spending all that time in productive reading, listening or watching, else many have also been exploited by the web in curiosity of exploiting the web.

Feel free to reach out to me, I would love to share what I know from my little pool of experience. :), catch me on twitter @DhatriMisra

IIT Delhi, the name takes it all. It is one of the best IIT’s in India. The place everyone dreams of but only a few get into it. One of those intelligent minds who made up till there is Neelotpal Nag.You can just imagine how great he would have performed in JEE and JEE advance to reach there . Let’s hear it up from him what is it to be at the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi.

IIT has been no less than a dream-come-true for me and perhaps everyone who has toiled hard to get into one. It has taken me just a few months to realise why IITs are considered to be the supreme and premier institutes for aspiring engineers.

I am pursuing my B. Tech. course from IIT Delhi. And I shall re-quote wise words and my experiences too, by saying that IIT has genuinely maintained optimum standards in the field of engineering-learning. A perfect learning environment, bright ideas from bright minds of the nation, exposure to talents and skills of all kinds, unlimited opportunities and platforms, is what an Indian Institute of Technology is made of. The professors are highly qualified and experienced, higher than any other institutes in the nation.

To add, IITs don’t just teach engineering, they are packed with a lot of sport and co-curricular tradition, for the all-round development of the student. I have experienced a lot of positive transformations in myself since the day I came to IIT- upliftment in thoughts , perception, and logic, taking up greater responsibilities, recognising my talents and capabilities, and yes, I have started growing AN ENGINEER’s EYE – All this has been possible because of IIT, and I am confident to say that such cultivation is not possible in any other institute than an IIT.

I would say that all the hard work and time I had invested in clearing the JEE was really worth it, and I am very glad to get my future shaped in an IIT. Indeed, I see IIT as a very strong catalyst which amplifies our capabilities, magnifies our vision and perception, and creates not just engineers, but efficient Engineers, Thinkers, Managers, and Leaders.

Symbiosis Law School, one of the countries most prestigious law schools. The place everyone dreams of but only a few get into it. One of those intelligent minds who make up till there is Avadhoot Potnis. Let’s hear it up from him what is it to be at the Symbiosis Law School, Pune

When I look back, I feel time has passed too quickly. It feels like only yesterday I finished my board exams, and ended one of the most enthralling journeys of my life: The School. However this end was just a beginning, as it always is, a new start picks up where the old ends. It was time for college education.

Now that I find myself writing in the deep night, one semester down, of the experiences I encountered in my college, Symbiosis Law School, Pune… A smile escapes my face. Time yet again had run my past my being, passed too quickly, leaving behind a trail of memories.

If I had to explain my 1st semester in one word, that would be Divergent. It was different, a
completely new experience, I had faced nothing like that in my life before.

So, the college in which I am studying, Symbiosis Law School, Pune, was founded in 1977, and since has been one of the premiere institutes imparting legal education. According to the rankings, we are 4th, but personally I feel that’s all hyped up, but yes we will definitely rank somewhere between 5th – 7th place. It is one of the decent law colleges of the nation, contrary to the notions of some people who consider it a very degenerative place.

In my case SLS was not the plan, it was more of a backup sort. CLAT 14 was a major screw up, and I ended up here. However, I was not the only one. SLS is full of CLAT screw ups, who deserve to be in an NLU but do not get through in a good college because of the way that this examination is conducted, reservation system etc. Which according to me is a good thing, for the level of competition is pretty good. Academics are decent, favours tipping more in the side of good than
bad.

In Symbiosis, the batch sizes are huge, which have a paramount effect on college life. The amount of talent we possess is amazing, simply because we formidable bench strength and more number of
people. May it be co-curricular or extracurricular SLS has made a mark on everything. There is no
dearth of opportunities for those who earn it.

Life at symbiosis is a party, literally. College is filled with party freaks. This doesn’t mean we do not study or shit, it just means that we work hard and we play hard. College is not as strict as the NLU’s and gives a lot of personal space, but it also maintains a strong control over academics, attendance and assignments. You can find students from all walks of life, crazy party animals to geeky book worms. It is a learning experience when you interact with them, you get to learn and improve on so many things

SLS gives the added advantage of Pune, which is awesome. Hands down, Pune is a chill city. From its roots in deep history to its modern face, it is a much loved city. We just moved to a royal campus in Viman Nagar, which is one of the most posh and happening areas of Pune. But whenever there are talks of the old campus, all the seniors have a nostalgic smile on their face, and they still fondly remember the SB road campus, which was in the heart of the city.

In all my experiences at SLS were all pointing to one thing, constant learning and change is needed for survival. It was a learning experience, it had ups and downs, a lot of confusion, and I made mistakes… It was a roller coaster ride. I still feel it’s too early to pen down all of my experiences, I have spent too less time here to understand it fully.

If someone really wants to take a peek into the life in symbiosis law school, and is thinking of joining it, I would suggest to read this article by my senior Neeati Narayan

That’s all from my side, I guess!

This Post was written by Avadhoot Potnis who is a fresher at Symbiosis Law School Pune.

Well if you are at bhopal and you want to find coaching classes for CLAT or SET or AILET you could find it here

University of Delhi, the place everyone dreams of but only a few get into it. One of those intelligent minds who make up till there is Kartik Sharma. Let’s hear it up from him what is it to be at the University of Delhi

Source- www.du.ac.in

The transition from school to college is perhaps one of the most important adjustments that a person has to make in life. And the most adventurous as far as I can tell. You start out as this ‘kid’ that nobody considers mature enough to take decisions for his/her life and the second you pass school those days are very well over. College just is not an institution anymore , it’s the key to everything you wanted and everything you can do to materialize it.

My experience is related to the a group of the most prestigious colleges of the country – The University of Delhi….(coz DU is just too mainstream).

Throughout my 11th and 12th my target was one, to be a part of this conglomeration of excellence. Believe me when I say getting into DU holds the same rush as IIT or Medical Colleges like AIIMS and requires the same amount of hard work as well.
I would not bore you with a long lecture on ‘how to achieve it’ or other thingmabobs attached to it but will tell you what it means to be there.

Like any other student facing this transition I was elated from but sceptic about the situation I will be facing in a City/Almost State like Delhi. The thing with Delhi is you never know what it can throw at you. And you never can predict that with your college life as well.

There are two sides to such a City and you would want to be on the right side of it. Curiously enough I was not alone in thinking this. Everyone there was, was faced with the same problems. And that is what leads to the very first friendships on campus.

Trust me when I say this..I have never seen equality of such gargantuan proportions in any other place. Everyone there is, is at the pinnacle of his/her field. There are no seconds in DU. This is what it takes to inculcate the feeling of absolute equality in students, myself included. And the funny thing is nobody is uptight as you would imagine them to be.
Nobody cares whether you got a 99 or 90, you are there and that is what it finally comes too.
Now the part where I tell you how it is to live all alone in such a city..Absolute and Utter Chaos..!!
(At first at least)
You wouldn’t know a thing to do or a place to be and you just wouldn’t care. I got the feeling as if all the burden of performance has suddenly vanished into thin air and I am left with this serene feeling of how great everything is; and that’s is what exactly motivated me to be the best possible version of myself that I can be.
Schedule in such a place can vary from 18-19 hour group or whatsapp studies (semesters of course) and the same amount of hours for games and partiying (before semester).

You would discover new things that are there and you never noticed and most importantly the people you meet in such a setting.
Delhi University attracts students from all over the world and this creates one of the features unique to DU- Exposure. You can meet people from ladakh to Tamil nadu to USA to Korea. And you will learn, learn about life and experiences that you couldn’t have possibly known.

You will study and enjoy and learn and laugh.
But one thing is certain..
You have be there to see it all..:)

Kartik is a first year student at Ramjas College.

The first question that comes to one’s mind while thinking about his / her career in middle school / high school is, “which stream should I take?” Unfortunately, that’s something I can’t answer.

That’s because simply saying, “choose the stream of your interest” doesn’t work in our country. Firstly, our education system doesn’t provide us enough experience in all the different fields to figure out which one is our field of interest. Still, most of us are pretty clear about what interests us more, maybe not to the extent that we’d wish for, but certainly more than other subjects. That’s a good head start.

Secondly, all streams haven’t grown at the same rate. Some may provide ample job opportunities, and some may not. So, I won’t go on to suggest what you should take. Listen to your mind, figure out your interests, talk to your family, and come up with the answer.

So, if you’ve chosen engineering, the next question is the one in the title of this post. I’ll try and answer that.

Choose a school that has compulsory attendance policy – that is, it’s not a dummy school. But make sure it’s not famous (or infamous) for burdening its students with too much work. This may seem contradictory to many popular beliefs, wherein a dummy school is considered the best choice for preparation for JEE. But I choose to differ, because:

1. School brings regularity to one’s life like nothing else can. You won’t wake up everyday at 6 am if it were not for going to school.

2. It also helps in destroying the monotony of the sedentary life that many IIT aspirants live.

3. School teachers and NCERT textbooks always have something good to offer.

As to the coaching, I would suggest one to join a place which has regular classes, and which also provides enough time for self study. Both these are equally important for learning the concepts and proper practice. Preferably join a national level institute so that you are regularly tested at that level, and have an exposure of what a national level exam feels like.

In the end, what matters more than your school and coaching is your dedication and commitment towards your goal and the subjects. If you love studying Physics, Chemistry and Math, you’ll enjoy the ride no matter where you study.

If you are still confused you could find career consultants here

This post is originally written by Nishit Asnani a fresher at IIT Kanpur. You could find more Advices by him at his Blog
